Dr. George Miley Replicates Patterson, Names Rossi

Long-time cold fusion researcher Dr. George Miley, affiliate professor at the University of Illinois, has recently released a report documenting his  successful replication of the work of cold fusion pioneer James Patterson. Dr. Miley feels that the work of Mr. Patterson and Andrea Rossi have many similarities and has offered a theory that is felt to cover both.  Dr. Miley recently spoke at  the World Green Energy Symposium in Philadelphia, PA from October 19-21, 2011.  A Microsoft Power Point presentation was released on October 3 documenting his work and experimental results.  I have included a slide show of this presentation below.  Please note that such presentations usually serve as a guide to an accompanying lecture, of which I do not have access to at the present time.  I will post it if and when it becomes available.*

Previously Dr. Miley has explored the use of fusion for rockets and space planes and a  presentation covering that subject can be viewed here.

*Update 11/13/2011 – 3:00 p.m. EST:  New video is now available of Dr. Miley from the World Green Symposium, where he states that his recent work is now approaching commercialization.  While his work was initially based on the work of James Patterson, he was never able to get the same results in terms of heat output as James Patterson.  He is now using a method more similar to Rossi, i.e. gas-loading and nano-particles, and is getting results similar to Patterson and Rossi.  In the video linked to below, he lays out plans for the first commercial products.  Details are covered in this article and this video, starting at 5:15 mark.

  2. It was a good read, thanks for the share.

The calorimeter design being used by Miley can be modified to measure power output within a few percent by insulating the outer container and wrapping flow tubing about it to measure the heat generated in the reaction. Then the calorimeter constant can be established using an electrical resistance heater placed at the reaction cell location. This becomes a flow calorimeter and retains the ability to maintain the reaction cell at a preset temperature to measure power out from a reaction happening at that temperature. It is essential that Miley and team make modifications at the earliest opportunity, because it is precisely sloppy calorimeter results giving imprecise heat measurements that critics point at when denouncing research in LENR. And as scientists they make a good point. The Miley results can not be conclusively duplicated by other research groups unless measurements are accurate. And if the experiments can not be duplicated no body is going to believe the Miley results. In a way his results can be perceived as even less believable than those of Rossi. Miley claims comparable heat generation to the E-Cat fuel by morphology of the fuel alone. Rossi claims a “secret” catalyst is used in his E-Cat, but if the heat generation is a result of the physical morphology alone (that is, size and shape of particles, of an alloy), and not a result of any secret ingredient or activation procedure, then LENR is a purely natural phenomena, and can not be patented. The Miley work would prove that LENR is a discovery, not an invention.

Let’s hope that shortly now we will all be fighting to be sure the E-CAT is given to the people and not taxed out of existence by the few rich and powerful.
Still have to see that final confirmation, but looking good, roll on Friday

There is an interesting discussion on Vortex about whether Rossi is using deuterium. Slide #48 seems to indicate that the Miley group got good results with it and a tank of deuterium was seen at one of Rossi’s demos, which Rossi claimed was used to quench the reaction (??). See discussion at below link.

Also of interest, I came across an article indicating that the Patterson device could neutralize radioactive waste. I have posted a link on the Patterson page referenced above.

This is a report that preparation is underway for start-up of the 1MW plant. For details, see the post under Headlines/Chatterings.

Would be nice to see such studies done by BrillouinEnergy.com which also uses Ni-H but in a sustainable electrolysis system.

Great Article Admin, Cold Fusion just keeps rolling along.
I wonder when students at our wonderful university’s will be allowed to learn about such blasphemies.
